Reigniting hope

The Gates Foundation is dedicated to fighting poverty, disease, and inequity around the globe. We know that support for addressing these issues – the basic human needs of food, shelter and health -- relies on people believing that progress is possible. Yet every day, we consume a steady stream of news saturated with geopolitical tensions, conflicts and struggling economies. It can feel like we’re being battered by wave after wave of global crises. We wanted to show the world that optimism is the very fuel that makes progress possible – and the proof lies in humans working together to make it happen around us every day.

We call them the Partners of Human Potential.

On top of the manifeso film, we also created 5 mini docos which dived deeper into the different partnerships. This one centered around a collaboration between gene scientists in UK and Kenya.

We set out on a journey to capture the partners of the Foundation, the real people changing the world. From the very start we wanted to make sure we told thier stories in the most authentic light possible; So we filmed on 16 mm to accurately capture their skin tones; we made fonts of each partner’s handwriting; and we built our script solely out of quotes from hundreds of hours of interviews with partners 6 months before filming.
